Goshen, Ohio
Police in Ohio have arrested three people after a toddler ingested marijuana at their home in Goshen.
Police were called to Children’s Hospital, as doctors tried to determine how marijuana could have gotten into the child’s system.
Doctors soon determined that the child had eaten the marijuana.
Police questioned the infant’s father, Joshua Smallwood and the grandparents, William and Kimberly Smallwood. All three brought the 2-year old to the hospital, reporting that the child was behaving abnormally, including not being able to stay awake.
Police said William Smallwood and his son admitted to occasionally smoking marijuana, but they said they did not smoke in the house. A subsequent search of the home, which police describe as filthy and not fit for a child to live in, yielded a small amount of marijuana.
William and Joshua Smallwood were charged with drug possession and child endangering, and Kimberly Smallwood was charged with child endangering.
The elder Smallwood was convicted last year of aggravated drug trafficking.
The child, after spending a few days in the hospital, has recovered and is staying with other relatives. Police said other children were in the home at the time, and two other people may be charged.
