| Scott Andrew Spoonster |
Tarpon Springs, Florida
A 34-year-old Tarpon Springs man is facing charges sparked by an Internet relationship with a teenage girl in Texas.
Scott Andrew Spoonster is currently behind bars at the Pinellas County Jail on a bond of $40,000. He is facing one count of computer pornography, traveling to meet a minor and a warrant out of Texas for sexual assault of a child.
According to a Tarpon Springs Police Department report, they first became aware of Spoonster back in March when detectives received a phone call from the mother of a 13-year-old girl. She informed the officers that her daughter had been communicating via the Internet with Spoonster.
The conversations took place through such sites as Facebook and World of Warcraft investigators say. The girl’s mother also claimed that Spoonster was sending gifts to the minor child at her home address.
The woman contacted authorities because she believed her daughter’s relationship with Spoonster was inappropriate. Detectives tracked down Spoonster to his home in Tarpon Springs and went to talk to him.
He told detectives that he was aware of the girl’s age but denied doing anything inappropriate. Spoonster also admitted to sending the juvenile gifts and when he was told that the girl’s mother wanted him to stop he agreed to cease communication with her.
No charges were filed.
Well, it seems that Spoonster just couldn’t let it rest. Police received another call last month from the mom. It seems that Spoonster had traveled to Texas to meet the teen and the pair spent the night in a hotel room together.
Detectives say the child informed authorities in Texas that Spoonster had sexually battered her during their stay at the hotel. Investigators with the Frisco Police Department investigation the allegations and turned their findings over to the District Attorney’s Office in Denton, Texas for prosecution.
Tarpon Springs Police arrested Spoonster on Friday based on information obtained by the Frisco County PD and the Denton County District Attorney’s Office Criminal division.
The report states that Spoonster admitted to traveling to Texas for the sole purpose of meeting the underage minor. He also allegedly told authorities that he obtained a rental vehicle to bring the juvenile to the hotel room.
The suspect remains at the Pinellas County Jail while he awaits extradition to Texas to face the sexual battery charge.
