Flying Hash Browns Lands Fleeing Teacher in Florida Jail

Simone Paolercio

Lakeland, Florida

Simone Paolercio, a middle school teacher at Lakeland middle school, was jailed over the weekend after she allegedly threw her food through a McDonald's drive-thru window, striking an employee.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reports that Paolercio entered a drive-thru at McDonalds on Saturday morning and ordered food totaling around $20.

You know what they say about the drive-thru? And it must be true, because the 39-year-old Paolercio began to argue with an employee about her hash browns, demanding that they take the food back and return her money. When the employee refused, the teacher allegedly threw the bag of food through the window. One of the hash browns flew out of the bag and struck the employee in his face and chest.

Investigators say Paolercio immediately fled the scene after throwing the food. Surveillance cameras, however, helped identify Paolercio and her vehicle and deputies were able to find her at home.

When officers questioned her, Paolercio admitted to throwing the food through the drive-thru window because the employee refused to give her a refund.

Paolercio was booked into the the Polk County Jail and charged with misdemeanor battery. She was released on Sunday.
