Houston, Texas

Isn’t it sometimes amazing, the effect a coach or teacher can have on kids and young people?

When it comes to Gordon Daniel Oehmig, if what police say is true, the only question is the extent of the impact that he had on his young students. The Houston-area high school wrestling coach has been accused of possessing child porn.

Oehmig, the 29-year-old head wrestling coach at St. Thomas High School, was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography.

Houston police said on Thursday, the Houston-Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant at Oehmig's home. Once inside, investigators discovered more than 1,000 images and video files of young children engaged in sexual acts.

What concerns police is the fact that Oehmig’s position as head wrestling coach at St. Thomas High School, along with his work at other schools and training facilities, has allowed him to have a significant amount of exposure to children. Police said he may be involved in three organizations that work with children.

"We did a forensic preview at the scene, which is basically a sneak peak into his computer," Officer J.T. Roscoe said. "In a very open, obvious location, we found approximately 1,600 images and 550 videos of child pornography. Of that, the vast majority of it was males, prepubescent. We pulled off approximately 21 images and videos, two of which were toddlers."

Oehmig turned himself in on Thursday was released on a $20,000 bond, police said.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying any additional victims.
