A Florida doctor is being held without bond at the Pinellas County Jail following his arrest late Friday on sexual battery charges.
Dr. Brian Webster Cook is facing three counts of sexual battery on a minor child in his care.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office reports Cook, 50, was employed as the Physician in Charge of Emergency Care at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Cook is also a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Medical School.
Investigators say the physician has admitted to the crimes.
The victim in this case, according to authorities, is not related to the suspect but was left in his care when the child’s mother was unable to care for him. The alleged criminal activity is believed to have occurred between 2009 and 2011 in Pinellas County.
Cook, who is also the Medical Director of a Pinellas County health care business called StatMed , was taken into custody just after 10pm Friday. StatMed is comprised of two walk-in clinics, one in Largo and one in Clearwater.
On Thursday, patrol deputies received a report of the abuse. That led detectives to take a closer look at Cook. Investigators say Cook was cooperative when confronted with the charges.
Police believe there may be more victims and are asking that anyone with information about Dr. Cook contact PCSO’s Crimes against Children Unit at 727-582-6200 as the investigation continues.
Cook’s background as listed on StatMed’s website says he is board certified in Emergency Medicine, possesses 21 years experience in emergency room and trauma care and has been a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians since 1986.
