New Mexico Shoe Salesman Daniel Anaya Has a Taste for Feet: Arrested for Chomping Ex-Girlfriend's Toe

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Once in a while, a story comes along that doesn’t require any added wise cracks or comedic spin from my end. This is one of those stories.

Police in Santa Fe arrested 27-year-old Shoe salesman Daniel Anaya, 27, for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment. But police say that the plot thickened, once Anaya was inside.

According to the arrest report, the girlfriend told police that after Anaya broke into the home the couple once shared, he asked her if he could smell her feet. When she said no, Anaya allegedly slammed her against a wall, forcibly removed her shoes and socks and began biting her left big toe. He chomped down so hard that his teeth went through the nail bed and down to the bone. The bite left her without the tip of her toe, according to investigators.

This was not Anaya’s first attempt at toe-tasting. The woman told officers she had broken up with Anaya in November because he had bitten her other big toe.

"It's odd. Extremely odd," Santa Fe Police Captain Aric Wheeler said.

Police have charged Daniel Anaya with burglary, false imprisonment, interference with communications and aggravated battery against a household member.
