A man from Santa Rosa Beach has been arrested for child pornography. But, this is not just an ordinary man. As it turns out, this pedophile turns out to be former Walton County Commissioner and citizen of the year Lane Charles Rees.
The Walton County Sheriff’s office, acting on a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, began investigating an online account that was trading child pornography. Investigators with the Cyber-crimes unit traced the account to 61-year-old Rees.
Deputies got a search warrant and arrested Rees.
Sheriff's office P-I-O Wendy Ammons says deputies are continuing to sort through Rees' things but have already found several pictures of underage children.
He was charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Transmission of Child Pornography, both third degree felonies which are punishable by a combined term of imprisonment not exceeding 10 years and a fine of $10,000.
Rees was taken and booked into the Walton County Department of Corrections. Rees who is also a member of the Walton County Republican Party was released on a 100,000 dollars bond.
