Basalt, Colorado
Back in February, we featured a story on Laura Redfern, 26, a basketball coach at Basalt High School. She had recently been arrested for sexually abusing a teen boy. In fact, according to police, Redfern and the 17-year-old student were caught having sex in the teacher’s restroom at school. In addition to the incident in the restroom, investigators say the two had sex at Redfern’s house, as well as at the teen’s home.
Originally, Redfern could have faced a sentence of 4-16 years in prison. As part of a plea deal, the charges would be reduced to contributing to the delinquency of a minor and Redfern would not face jail. Additionally, she would not have to register as a sex offender.
One of the contributing factors for the plea deal was the boy’s close proximity to 18 years of age.
The plea agreement still has to be approved by the judge.
