Clearwater, Florida
Back in May, police in Clearwater arrested 29-year-old Eric Antunes, after receiving a tip that he possessed child pornography. Following his arrest, Antunes allegedly admitted to downloading and watching the kiddy porn on his computer.
A subsequent search of his electronic devices confirmed the disturbing images on his computer, as well as more images on his cell phone. But, it gets even more disturbing. Upon closer examination, police discovered six photos of Antunes having intimate encounters with his girlfriend’s 3-legged dog named Ruby. The majority of the images, according to investigators, depicted Antunes performing oral lickity-split on the dog.
Antunes had worked as a contract employee at the Pinellas County Humane Society and his girlfriend, Katerina Williamson, was medical director there. She left that post days after Antunes was arrested.
Last year, the Florida Legislature passed a bill outlawing intercourse with animals, a first-degree misdemeanor, by a unanimous vote. However, as prosecutors have discovered, there is a gap in the law: It doesn't forbid oral sex with an animal. So, for Antunes, this is good news…sort of.
Assistant State Attorney Beverly Andringa said her office declined to prosecute Antunes for bestiality because, out of the six photographs found on his cellphone, only one "would meet the strict criteria of the statute."
Police aren't certain when all the photos were taken. Some might have predated the new law.
On the doggy sex issue, I guess this means Antunes got-off without a "lick." However, he still faces three counts of possession, control or intentional viewing of child pornography, all third-degree felonies. His arraignment is scheduled for July 2.
