A 32-year-old science teacher at Imagine School in West Melbourne was arrested Wednesday after she allegedly had sex with a 14-year-old student on multiple occasions.
Police charged Irene Isabel Khan, following a two-month investigation into allegations that she engaged in a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student.
According to police, several of the sexual encounters took place in Khan’s car. The two also had sex at the teacher’s apartment and at several area hotels. Investigators say they were able to verify statements from the victim during the investigation.
The victim told police that Khan had given him a cell phone after his mother had taken his cell phone away. Detectives found text messages between Khan and the boy which allegedly show Khan expressing her love and affection for him.
Khan resigned her teaching position in January, right before police began their investigation. The sexual relationship between Khan and the student, according to investigators, continued through most of the 2011-2012 school year.
Khan has been charged with enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, sexual battery by an authority figure, lewd and lascivious battery by engaging in sexual activity and lewd or lascivious molestation.
Her arraignment hearing has been set for July 12.
