Just down the road from Pasadena, also known as “Stinkadena,” (refineries) a former La Porte high school teacher and coach has stirred-up quite a stink after cops say he had an improper relationship with a 17-year-old student.
Prosecutors in Harris County have charged 31-year-old Kevin Andrew Wheeler with two counts of improper relationship between educator and student. And according to police, there was intimate, sexual contact involved.
The victim, in a statement, said that on May 4, during an off-period, she reported to Wheeler’s classroom. Once inside, she told investigators, “She put his dick in her mouth.”
The girl also told investigators that he began fingering her inside and outside her panties, and at one point said, "You must not be into it because you're not wet."
La Porte police said Wheeler was a teacher and coach when the inappropriate relationship with his 17-year-old female algebra student blossomed. The illegal activity occurred during the 2011-2012 school year. According to court documents, Wheeler and the student had sexual contact in his classroom in May during school hours.
On Thursday, Wheeler appeared in court for the second time this week, bringing his mother and defense attorney.
"He's not making any statements. We've entered a plea of not guilty and we haven't seen any evidence yet," defense attorney Ned Barnett said.
While Wheeler isn’t talking, detectives say that the girl sent Wheeler a Facebook friend request in August and the two then began exchanging messages that were sexual in nature. The two also communicated on cellphones and through private email accounts, including sending nude photographs, police said.
According to police, when Wheeler was interviewed, he admitted to exchanging inappropriate messages with the girl. He also admitted to having some sexual contact with the girl. However, of the oral sex incident, Wheeler says the victim initiated it.
La Porte Independent School District officials said Wheeler's employment has been terminated.
Wheeler was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Harris County Jail. He was released on $100,000 bond after his first court appearance.
