Florida Girl Candace Long: Terrific Drunk, Lousy Baby-Sitter, Cops Say

Candace Long (Facebook)

Candace Long Mug
Daytona Beach, Florida

It always amazes me how in this day and age, people are still reckless when choosing something as important as a baby-sitter. Hell, when choosing anyone in Florida, the deck is already stacked against your kids.

However, a fellow Floridian chose one and you can almost guess how the story will end, right?

Deputies say that a babysitter was discovered passed-out, while holding a 2-year-old boy, on a stranger’s porch near Daytona Beach. The temperature outside was 39-degrees and the child was only dressed in wet shorts and a t-shirt.

Police identified the drunk woman as 28-year-old Candace Long. After waking-up, Long was reportedly incoherent and muttering that she was drunk because it was her birthday.

The boy's father asked Long to watch the child while he ran errands. But the family didn't give Long permission to leave with the boy.

Arizona Meth Head Mom Jacqueline Trousdale: Injected 5-Year-Old Daughter with Methamphetamine and Amphetamine

Jacqueline Trousdale (Facebook)

Tolleson, Arizona

There is no mom of the year award planned for Jacqueline Trousdale of the Phoenix area.

That’s because police arrested the 30-year-old woman after they say she injected her 5-year-old daughter with methamphetamine and amphetamine.

Trousdale’s troubles began back in October of 2012, starting with accusations of child abuse and molestation that caught the eyes and ears of police.

Police said the girl's father had confronted Trousdale about her alleged drug use and that the children had told him their mother was injecting them with a drug and then allowing men to molest them inside the hotel room, according to a court document.

Child Protective Services had been searching for Trousdale’s two children for a while and had launched numerous investigations into the family.

Once the children were found, a urine sample from the children came back positive for drugs.

With a positive result in hand, Tolleson police located Trousdale. She was booked on one count of child abuse, one count of endangering the life and health of a minor and one count of theft. Police said she had removed screws from a light in her holding cell.

Texas Middle School Principal Accused of Child Abuse after Fracturing Child's Tail Bone with Paddle

Dayton, Texas

Down in Dayton, Texas, a middle school principal went all swing-happy with a paddle, causing severe injuries to a child.

Dalton Day, a 6th grader at Nottingham Middle School in Dayton was treated for a dislocated tailbone and severe bruising. Dalton Day's parents said his injuries are the result of being hit with a paddle at school.

"I'm devastated," said Lisa Day, the boy's mother. "He pulled his pants down and what I saw was the paddle board across his bottom."

Photographs clearly reveal the outline of the paddle, along with severe bruising. There was even blood involved. Upon further medical evaluation, x-rays reveal that the boy’s tail bone was dislocated.

The mother gave permission for the paddling to the principal, after receiving a call about her son misbehaving in class. However, Day says she never expected this type of excessive abuse.

According to the victim, as he looked back before the paddling, the principal was standing in a baseball stance and swung with both hands.

The paddle used in the abuse was made out of wood, about an inch think and 18 inches long. It was allegedly wrapped in blue electrical tape.

The family filed a report with the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable's Office because they provide security for the school. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is also investigating.

The Dayton ISD issued the following statement:

"Dayton ISD is doing an investigation into a parent's report about their 6th grade student receiving corporal punishment at school. They allege that the pops were excessive in nature and that their child was injured. As soon as the investigation is complete, more information will be available."

According to the school's website, the principal is Jeff Nations.

DNA Test Clears Oklahoma's Tommy Braden on Child Sexual Abuse Charges

Tommy Braden, Tommy Braden arrested for raping 4-year-old-girl
Tommy Braden
Creek County, Oklahoma

Tommy Braden, a 24-year-old Oklahoma man is a free man. Back in April, police arrested Braden, saying he he raped his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter.

According to the Creek County Sheriff's Office, Braden called 911 telling police that someone broke into his mobile home and raped his "little girl."

As it turns out, looks like deputies rushed to judgement after finding the girl covered in blood from the waist down. They also found the family dog dead of apparent stab wounds.

Police say that during an April interview with Braden, they became suspicious of his version of events. So, for the next few months, Braden was behind bars charged with sex abuse of a minor.

"Upon further investigation and everything, it became apparent to us that we didn't believe that the story (he gave) was truthful," stated Cpt. John Davis of the Creek County Sheriff's Office.

That was the official statement in April.

Police now say the DNA results are in, clearing Tommy Braden and pointing them to a different suspect named Patrick Misner.

Holy Jesus: Atlanta Mega-Church Pastor Creflo Dollar Busted for Child Abuse and Cruelty

Creflo Dollar, Police arrested Creflo Dollar for beating and choking his 15-year-old daughter.

Creflo Dollar Mugshot, Mega-church preacher Creflo Dollar busted for child abuse. Atlanta, Georgia

Mega-church pastor Creflo Dollar spent a little time in the pokey on Friday, after being arrested for abusing his 15-year-old daughter, according to police.

The girl called 911 and told authorities her father choked and punched her, and hit her with his shoe during an argument over whether she could go to a party, according to a police report.

Unfortunately for Dollar, who has Jesus in his corner, his daughter had a witness nearby (her older sister), who corroborated her sister's story despite the preacher’s denial. And since nobody could really get any answers from Jesus, police went with the girl’s version of events.

Dollar is one of the most prominent African-American preachers based around Atlanta. His World Changers Church International has 30,000 members in the Atlanta area, and the ministry has satellite churches across the U.S.

The good pastor is facing misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. He has been released from jail and his lawyer said he will be back in the pulpit on Sunday.

Dollar said in a statement Friday he loved his children and would never hurt them.

The 50-year-old Dollar leads the Creflo Dollar Ministries and is the pastor for World Changers Church International in the Atlanta suburb of College Park. World Changers Church-New York hosts over 6,000 worshippers each week.

Satellite churches are also in Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Washington, Cleveland, Dallas and Houston.

Facebook Stockholders: An Update on How Your Investment is Doing So Far in Florida

St. Petersburg, Florida

As a prudent investor, I let the recent Facebook IPO slip on by without my dime. Little did I know just how much excitement I would let pass by. I mean, I love roller coasters and I haven’t seen a steeper decline in years.

Also, there’s the product itself, as well as he users of the product. Take, for instance, Debbie Freeman, 46, of St. Petersburg. The proud mother and Facebook user has really become involved with the product. And, she is taking it to the streets…or should we say shopping malls?

Police arrested Debbie Freeman, and have charged her with child abuse. A 14-year-old boy says she tried to choke him over a post he made about her daughter on Facebook.

Now Freeman claims she accidentally touched the boy’s neck. However, police say they found a copy of security footage that contradicts her version of events and confirms the statement of the victim.

She has since been released on bail and, like any good Facebooker, I am sure she’s already logged in again. And, as you may have noticed, I didn’t speculate as to what the boy said about her daughter. I’m not in the mood for strangulation this week. I’ll let you use your own imagination on that one.

No Father of the Year Award for Gage Eason: Left Kids In Hot Van Alone While Shopping for Gun

Gage Eason Left Kids In Hot Van
Gage Eason (Facebook)
Katy, Texas

For 22-year-old Gage Eason, gun shopping is serious business. In fact, it’s so serious that another shopper had to call authorities to report Eason’s two children being left alone in a hot van outside for almost an hour.

Surveillance video from the store confirmed that the dipshit Eason was inside the store for almost an hour, while he left the children outside.

Gage Eason Gun Shopping

The store even made an announcement, searching for the driver of the van. Eason continued to shop.

Gage Eason’s 6-month-old son and 18-month-old daughter were removed from the van by emergency crews and handed over to CPS.

“People make mistakes every day. Mine just happened to be shown on camera. It wasn’t intentional,” Eason told KHOU 11 News. “I love my kids and there’s nothing more important than my kids.”

Eason said he lost track of time.

Hailie Eason, his wife who is pregnant with baby number three, showed up after the police were called.

Hailie Eason
Hailie Eason (Facebook)
When asked if she was mad at her husband, she fired back that of course she’s angry. “My kids have been ripped from me.”

CPS has released the children back to the parents, after meetings between attorneys.

Hailie Eason is also firing back at commenters on KHOU’s webpage. On her Facebook page, she even explains why CPS released the children back into the family’s custody.

“CPS didn't want to go for it but my kids attorney and mine agreed to it and mine told CPS they either take it or they will get nothing. She said I will win this case and you(CPS) know it so they agreed finally.”

Fortunately, there are stipulations. George Eason must not be with the kids unsupervised and the children’s grandmother must serve as the babysitter. Also, CPS will remain the temporary managing conservatorship and the parents must take parenting classes.

The Easons are expecting their third child. Hailie Eason is five weeks pregnant.

Texas Mom Tina Madrid Jailed In Connection To The Death of Her 10-year-old Disabled Son Found In Box

Tina Louise Madrid
Tina Louise Madrid
Texas City, Texas

Police in the Houston-area have arrested a 42-year-old mother, Tina Louise Madrid, and have charged her in connection to the death of her son.

Last year, a 10-year-old boy was found dead in a cardboard box. Police discovered the box containing the body of Jonathan Singer in the back of his father’s pick-up.

Prior to the discovery, police in Pasadena visited with the mother, Tina Louise Madrid, after receiving a call from a relative concerned for Jonathan’s welfare. Officers were told the boy was fine and with his father, Jeffrey Singer, although they were not able to find either of them.

The next day officers were summoned to the west Houston home of Jeffrey Singer’s father where Singer had parked his truck. It was then, that police discovered the child’s body.

Jonathan had cerebral palsy and could not care for himself. Authorities said he was neglected and weighed only about 35 to 40 pounds.

Police said Singer made statements about being responsible for the boy’s death, and they arrested him. The child had been dead about five days when his body was found.

Prosecutors said Jonathan’s father, Jeffrey Singer, 46, left the boy alone in a bathtub while he went shopping. The boy drowned.

Singer was charged with serious bodily injury to a child and is free on $50,000 bond, according to Harris County court records.

A coroner last week ruled the drowning of her son, Jonathan Singer, a homicide.

Child Protective Services had investigated the boy’s welfare in 2010 and found no evidence of abuse or neglect.

At this point, prosecutors are not releasing any details about the case against Tina Madrid. She is currently behind bars with a bond set at $50,000.

Winter Haven Father Christopher Ryon Wanted Sleep: Punches & Kills Crying 3-Month-Old Daughter

Christopher Scott Ryon
Winter Haven, Florida

For most of us, sleep distractions are just something we have to deal with on occasion. However, in the world of Christopher Ryon, nothing will interfere with his desire to get some shut-eye. In fact, he feels so strongly about this, that he decided to use his fist to diminish the sound of his crying 3-month-old daughter.

3-Month-Old Riley Ryon
Earlier this week, a medical call was dispatched to a home in Winter Haven. The call involved a 3 month-old baby, Riley Ryon, who was found unresponsive inside the apartment when her mother, Kristine Bardell, came home for lunch.

According to Bardell, she went into the bedroom where the baby was found face-down on the bed, as well as unresponsive. When she turned the baby over, she saw that Riley was not breathing and her face had a bluish tint. She rushed the baby to Ryon and he started CPR while Bardell called 9-1-1.

Winter Haven detectives, who were in the vicinity and heard the call, responded immediately to the scene and assumed CPR, while Winter Haven Fire and EMS were en-route. When EMS arrived, they took over CPR and transported the baby to Winter Haven Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and concluded the baby had a skull fracture (6.5 centimeters long) indicative of a blunt force trauma.

When detectives interviewed Christopher Ryon, he said he might have dropped Riley from the bed, and he repeatedly referred to her as ‘it.’ Later, Ryon admitted to hitting the baby in the head because she wouldn’t stop crying when he wanted to lie down to take a nap. Christopher Scott Ryon was placed under arrest and charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child.

Julia Ann Gallegos and Christopher Aaron Curry’s Home Remedy for “Fussy” Infant Leads to Child Abuse Charges

Julia Ann Gallegos (L) Aaron Curry (R)
Houston, Texas

A couple in Houston, both 22, just wanted to sleep-in. However, they soon realized that with an infant in the house, sleep is not always an option.

Police arrested Julia Ann Gallegos and Aaron Curry with felony injury to a child. While the couple continues to blame one another, authorities say they both are responsible for severe injuries to the infant, including internal bleeding, head trauma, a fractured rib and bodily injury to both knees. The treating physician also found injuries that appeared to be healing, which showed evidence of prior abuse.

Curry admitted in a recorded statement that he shook the fussy baby out of frustration and that he has squeezed the baby before when he tenses up. He also said he saw Gallegos grab the baby’s legs out of frustration and flip the child over.

Gallegos and Curry were both given a $5,000 bond.

Kentucky Mom Misty Lawson Has Anger Management Issues

Misty Lawson Myspace Pics & Arrest Photo
Louisville, Kentucky

A 30-year-old woman, Misty Lawson, was jailed Saturday following an anger management class where she allegedly punched her 10-year-old son in his face. This all seems odd to me, as she appears to be such a good role model…cough, cough.

Misty Lawson Myspace
According to Louisville Metropolitan Police, Lawson was attending an in-home anger-management class mandated by the Kentucky State child services agency when she reportedly punched the child in the face and body several times.

The assault left the boy with a knuckle-shaped imprint and a bruise on his face. A counselor witnessed the abuse and took the child to the police station. Child protective services were also notified.

According to investigators, Lawson admitted that she punched her son because he allegedly called her a "bitch". She also claimed that the child had severe behavioral problems and that he was trying to attack her when she slapped him.

You may not be surprised to learn Lawson has had legal problems in the past. She was arrested last June after she reportedly left her two children unattended in a hot vehicle while she and a male companion shopped at a local Kroger supermarket. Her record also includes receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana, menacing, resisting arrest, and contempt of court.

Lawson was booked into jail and charged with fourth degree assault, a misdemeanor. She was released on her own recognizances and is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Chicago Douche Andre Curry Charged for Facebook Photo of Bound Child

Douche Bag Andre Curry

Chicago, Illinois

Unfortunately for Andre Curry, he will not be a contender for father of the year 2011. Instead, he’s been charged with aggravated domestic battery for posting a Facebook photo of his little girl bound with tape.

“Curry used painters tape to bind his 1-year-old daughter’s wrists, ankles and mouth, and placed a photograph on Facebook,” according to the Chicago Police Department.

The 21-year-old nut-sack posted the image with the caption containing the kind of English skills I would suspect from a nut-sack, “This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back ; )”

Police arrested Curry on Tuesday evening for the felony charge. After a night in jail, a judge set bond for him at $100,000 on Wednesday afternoon. The judge also ordered that Curry have no contact with his daughter or use the Internet while under investigation.

A police spokesman said the little girl is in the custody of Curry’s mother, but it is unclear whether this was a result of the police investigation. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has also joined the investigation.

Mike Sullivan, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, said the incident is “still being investigated.”

Sullivan said the photo was brought to the police’s attention a few days ago when the media notified them, though it was posted in July.

Curry has since taken the Facebook page down, said Sullivan, but police are trying to contact Facebook for a copy of the page. Sullivan said detectives have spoken to Curry, and that the investigation is ongoing.

Curry’s friend Je’Vanna Cobbins said:

He be jus “playing around” and “I’s wouldn’t say it be child abuse.”

Britni Glover Watched Boyfriend Michael Seaton Beat Her 4-Year-Old To Death

Houston, Texas

A woman has been arrested and a man, who had been on the run, is also behind bars in connection with the blunt-force-trauma death of a four-year-old boy, according to Houston police.

Dustyn Skyler Roff was found dead at the home where he lived with his mother, Britni Bereasa Glover on Friday morning.

The boy’s 23-year-old mother was arrested and charged with injury to a child by omission. Her boyfriend Michael Allen Seaton, 21, faces capital murder charges and was on the run. However, Seaton ended up turning himself in on Tuesday morning as the search was gaining momentum.

"HPD officers responded to a report of a deceased child at the (address removed)and found young Dustyn to have suffered multiple injuries and bruises in various stages of healing throughout his body," police say.
Michael Seaton is accused of abusing the four-year-old. Houston police say last Thursday he was so mad that Glover came home from work late that he began to beat the boy so badly he died.

Britni Glover, from the Harris County Jail, told reporters with KTRK-TV that in the months that she was with Seaton, he never hit her. Instead, according to investigators, her four-year-old was the target.

CPS had two previous reports of abuse involving the mother and child but a spokeswoman says when they followed up, they could never find the two.

The manager of the apartment complex where they lived says several tenants had witnessed Seaton hitting Dustyn outside.

Michael Seaton has a history of abusing children, including a previous conviction for abusing a two-year-old girl

Texas Druggie Mom Ashley Jones Can't Explain How Infant Daughter Ingested Cocaine

Ashley Paige Jones
Houston, Texas

I don't know what is more disturbing. The fact that an infant ingested drugs, or that Harris County is just now arresting the mother, after the incident happened back in May.

A Houston mother has been charged with endangering a child, after authorities say her baby tested positive for illegal drugs.

Ashley Paige Jones, 30, is currently behind bars at the Harris County Jail under $2,000 bail, prosecutors said.

Jones allegedly took her 1-year-old daughter to a known drug house in the Houston area. Once inside the house, authorities say she left the child with a male while she went to an upstairs bathroom.

When she returned, the mother found a woman she didn't know holding the baby.

"She (Jones) became very upset that this female was holding the (baby)," the complaint states. "She immediately left the location and went home."

The complaint states that several hours later, the infant had chills and a temperature, looked purple and was gasping for air.

Jones took the baby to Texas Children's Hospital, where a drug test was performed. The child tested positive for cocaine and opiates, investigators said.

Court documents state that the baby tested positive for cocaine and opiates at the emergency room. The criminal complaint didn't specify how much was ingested, but medical experts say any amount is extremely dangerous for such a young child.

"It is a stimulant," said Dr. LaTanya Love, a UT Health physician. "It can cause changes their blood pressure. You can have seizures, you can have damage to your lungs (and) impaired mental status. So the complications could be severe."

According to hospital records, the baby's condition "was consistent with abuse or neglect and that (Jones) was unable to account for (the baby's) whereabouts when the cocaine and opiates were ingested," the complaint states.

The defendant was only able to state that she and the (baby) were at a friend's house."

Meanwhile, Child Protective Services placed the baby in foster care and reports she is doing well.

Ohio Teachers Kelly Chaffins and Christy Wilt Caught Bullying Special Needs Child

Kelly Chaffins (left) Christy Wilt (right)
Bloomingburg, Ohio

Miami Trace Middle School teachers Christy Wilt, 30, and Kelly Chaffins, 46, are hopefully, learning what it feels like to face harsh words.

This disturbing and downright infuriating story began when the teachers were caught on tape bullying a 14-year-old special needs student.

A couple in Ohio, raising a 14-year-old mentally disabled girl, received reports from their daughter that she was being bullied by Wilt and Chaffins. The couple contacted school administrators hoping to resolve the conflict.

However, according to the girl's parents, Miami Trace Superintendent Dan Roberts criticized the girl's parents by email, stating that there was "absolutely no truth" to the allegations and that their complaints were "bordering on slander and harassment."

School administrators insisted repeatedly that the girl was "lying" and subsequently dismissed their concerns.

Following the lack of action by school officials, the girl's parents sent their daughter to school with a small tape recorder. Over the next four days, the tape recorder captured deeply disturbing evidence of the girl’s claims. And now, the content on the tape has been released to the public.

First, let’s look at teacher Kelly Chaffins:

In the recordings, Chaffins allegedly asked the teen why she did not know the answer to a question. When the girl answered that she didn't know why, Chaffins allegedly responded "Are you kidding me? Are you that dumb? You are that dumb? Oh my God, you are such a liar. No wonder you don't have any friends. No wonder nobody likes you."

In another instance Chaffins allegedly asked the student "Don't you want to do something about that belly?" When the girl responded "Yes", Chaffins reportedly responded with "Well, evidently you don't because you don't do anything at home.... you sit at home and watch TV."

On another occasion after Chaffins learned that the girl's parents have contacted school administrators, Chaffins told the student "They are ridiculous... well you know what? They are liars raising a liar."

Christy Wilt, at about that time, decided to chime in:

"They are manipulators." (Talking about the girl’s parents)

The abuse continues. On yet another occasion, the teachers forced the teen to run on a treadmill for 15 minutes after getting a question wrong. Chaffins is reportedly heard on the tape yelling at the teen while she runs.

The school responded to the treadmill issue by stating the treadmill was placed into the classroom to help students "refocus" rather than punish them.

Confronted by a local reporter, Superintendent Dan Roberts insisted "When we found audio proof, we acted immediately." The outrage continues, however, because one of the accused teachers was allowed to keep her job.

Chaffins, who had worked for the district since 2008, was asked to resign once her comments became public.

Wilt, however, was placed on probation and will be required to attend an 8 hour class on child abuse and bullying. And if Sinister has anything to say about it, I would also require her to attend a treadmill class of her own. I mean…just sayin.'

You can follow the outrage on Facebook, yes, there is already a page:

Ohio Mom, Caretakers and Nurses Charged in Death of Disabled 28-Pound Teen Girl

Angela Norman
Dayton, Ohio

An Ohio mother and three nurses were charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter in the death of the woman's 14-year-old daughter, who had cerebral palsy and weighed 28 pounds at the time of her death.

According to the coroner’s office, the 14-year-old victim, Makayla Norman, died March 1 from nutritional and medical neglect complicated by her chronic condition.

"She was the worst malnourished child this office has ever seen," Ken Betz, director of the coroner's office, said Thursday.

A grand jury in Montgomery County indicted the four women on Thursday. They include the girl’s mother, 42-year-old Angela Norman of Dayton, Mollie Parsons of Dayton, Kathryn Williams of Englewood and Mary Kilby of Miamisburg.

Montgomery County Prosecutor, Mathias Heck Jr. had this to say about the case:

"This is a tragic and sad case wherein four adults were responsible for the care of this 14-year-old special-needs girl, and they all utterly ignored and failed to do so." The conduct of these four defendants transcends all bounds of human decency."

Heck also says the girl undoubtedly would still be alive "if just one of these defendants had acted responsibly."

The victim had numerous bed sores and showed other signs of neglect, and the prosecutor described the home as vile and filthy.

The girl’s mother, Angela Norman was indicted on a felony count and a misdemeanor count of endangering children.

Mollie E. Parsons was indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, failing to provide for a functionally impaired person and tampering with records. Kathryn Williams and Mary K. Kilby were each charged with failing to provide for a functionally impaired person and failing to report child abuse or neglect.

The teen was confined to her home and was supposed to be cared for by her mother and Parsons, a licensed practical nurse whose job was to administer care for the girl six days a week, according to the prosecutor.

Williams and Kilby are registered nurses, the prosecutor's office said. Williams was paid to supervise Parsons and visit and inspect the living conditions and do a physical assessment of the girl every 30 to 60 days. Kilby was scheduled to visit every six months to also check on conditions of the home and assess the girl's health, needs and care, the statement said.

Children's services had received a complaint on the family in September 2009. A spokesperson for the agency says he allegations could not be substantiated at the time.

Stevens said she could not provide any additional information because of confidentiality requirements, but she said that the department would have assisted the police and the prosecutor's office in their investigation of the girl's death.

All four women are being held in county jail.

Interesting status update on Nurse Mary Kilby’s Facebook page:

GOING TO BE OFF FOR A FEW DAYS, SOMEONE REPORTED ME AS ABUSIVE, SO I NEED TO KNOW WHO STILL WANTS TO (REMAIN ON FRIENDS LIST)... Delete me and I'll hunt you down, lol.

3-Month Old Infant’s Skull and Leg Fractured: Father and Mother Charged

Carson City, Nevada

Allisha Haltom, 25, the mother of a 3-month-old infant, has been charged with felony child abuse, accused of leaving her daughter in the care of the baby's father, knowing he would harm the child.

Haltom was arrested Thursday on a warrant and held in Douglas County Jail on $36,257 bail.

At the time of her arrest, police reportedly found a balloon of heroin in her sweatshirt. Haltom allegedly admitted using heroin.

The infant suffered two skull fractures and a fractured leg allegedly at the hands of her father, 31-year old Jonathan Flagg.

Haltom and Flagg are each facing felony child abuse charges in connection with the Oct. 19 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Haltom continually placed the baby in the care of Flagg knowing that he was physically abusing her or knowing that abuse was likely to happen.

The charge also states that Haltom was incapable of caring for or protecting the child because she was under the influence of controlled substances, resulting in the infant sustaining two skull fractures, a fractured femur, bruising and other injuries.

Haltom has a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 18.

Flagg, in Douglas County Jail on $25,000 bail, was bound over to district court following a preliminary hearing on Friday.

Perkins found that the baby's injuries — determined to be “non-accidental” by emergency room personnel — occurred while the baby was in Flagg's care, and there was probable cause that the defendant committed the offense.

Flagg is to appear in court on Nov. 15.

Prosecutor Tom Gregory said the baby is in the custody of Child Protective Services.

He submitted medical records Friday that described the injuries as “non-accidental” trauma indicating injuries to her leg and skull.

Sheriff's deputy John George testified Friday that he was sent to the couple's Gardnerville Ranchos residence on Oct. 19 on an unrelated case.

When he arrived, George said Flagg was in the driveway with a neighbor who was an off-duty firefighter/paramedic.

“I could hear the loud cry of a small child coming from within the residence,” George testified.

He said the neighbor told him Flagg had called him for help. The baby was lying on a couch inside Flagg's home and crying inconsolably.

Flagg told the deputy he placed the baby on his bed to change her diaper. He turned to clear a space and the baby rolled off the bed onto the floor.

Investigator Nadine Chrzanowski testified she first contacted Flagg that evening outside the emergency room at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center where the baby had been transported by paramedics.

“He told me (the baby) rolled off the bed and hurt her leg. At that point, the extent of the injuries was unknown,” Chrzanowski said.

She said Flagg seemed agitated, emotional and upset. He was pacing back and forth and displayed random bursts of temper and calm, she said.

Chrzanowski interviewed Flagg after he was taken into custody where she said he demonstrated how he picked up the baby after she fell.

“He said he grabbed her off the ground by her leg. Her head was pointed downward and he swung her by the leg. He said her head came up and he cradled her, carrying her to the couch,” Chrzanowski said.

Deputies said Flagg appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance at the scene.

After he gave them permission to search his residence, officers found 20 hypodermic needles, drug paraphernalia and marijuana.

Flagg reportedly told deputies he had used methamphetamine Oct. 18, the day before the incident.

And he’s no stranger to law enforcement, or child abuse for that matter. He has had eight prior contacts with law enforcement since 2000.

Flagg was sentenced in 2004 to one year in Douglas County Jail after he pleaded guilty to two gross misdemeanor counts of child abuse and neglect involving injuries inflicted on a six-month-old baby boy.

The child suffered bite marks, skull fractures and other head injuries. The baby's mother — Flagg's then-girlfriend — was sent to prison in connection with the crime.

In December 2007, Flagg was ordered to serve nine months in Douglas County Jail for punching a man in the jaw during a fight at a Stateline night club.

In December 2009, he was ordered to serve 34 months in prison for failing to repay $1,600 in bad checks and using methamphetamine in violation of his probation on the check charge.

Melissa Swiger Knows How To Handle Kids: Leaves Toddler In The Middle of Street and Drives Off

Melissa Swiger
Akron, Ohio

Melissa D. Swiger, a 32-year-old Akron woman was caught dumping on a roadway. The problem is, it was her toddler child she was dropping-off in the middle of the street before driving off. Moments later, she was involved in a three-car accident.

According to the Akron Police Department, Swiger was driving west on Waterloo Road with her 3-year-old child in the back seat when she suddenly stopped the vehicle.

Swiger then allegedly placed the child in the middle of the road and drove off. The child was left alone, strapped into a car seat.

Fortunately, a witness was nearby who removed the child from the road and contacted police. Investigators say Swiger caused a 3-car accident minutes after she left her child in the street. She was taken to a local hospital and was given a blood test, which showed she had drugs in her system.

She was taken to the psychiatric ward for evaluation and was released to officers on Wednesday.

Swiger told police that she was distraught after the recent passing of her father. She also stated that she had been taking Hydrocodone prior to the incident.

Swiger was booked into the Summit County Jail and charged with aggravated vehicular assault, child endangerment, and operating a vehicle while impaired.

Her child was placed into protective custody.
